Sinyaland Caves

The Legacy of a Lonely Survivor

Sinyaland Caves tell the remarkable story of Jjaja Kalaba Lubandi, the "Lonely Survivor of Sleeping Sickness" on Bugala Island. During the forceful evacuation from the Ssese Islands, Jjaja Kalaba chose to stay behind, determined to protect his ancestral land.

As a member of the Ssemugala family, custodians of Bugala Island, he took it upon himself to safeguard the island, living alone in the caves for 15 years.

Today, these historic caves have been expanded into four modernized units, offering a unique experience for adventurers. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the island and spend a night in these sacred grounds by booking with us.
